Event images & sizing

Cover on the detail page vs optional square image on event cards, where the date badge sits, and recommended upload sizes.

Every event can have a cover image (shown on the event detail page, and on cards when no square image is set) and an optional square image (1:1) for event cards / blocks only. This is about how listings look — not a tiny dashboard icon or a performance resize.

Quick answer Upload a 1200×600 (2:1) cover for the detail page (and for cards when you skip the square). Add an optional 800×800 square image if you want listings and event cards to show a square composition instead. The detail page prefers the cover; if you only upload a square image, detail uses that.

Cover image (default wide card)

When no square image is set, event cards use the cover. Spotagig crops it with object-fit: cover into a fixed-height window:

  • Desktop / card — width fills a card capped at 400 px; height is fixed at 200 px (about 2:1).
  • Tablet / mobile (< 768 px) — the card spans the viewport with the same 200 px height, so the crop can stretch to roughly 3.8:1.

There is no single ratio that is correct everywhere. Prefer 1200×600 (or similar 2:1) so the image downscales cleanly, and keep the subject in the horizontal centre band — the crop is centre-anchored and gets wider on smaller screens.

The date badge sits absolutely in the top-left of the card image. Anything you put there — a logo, a headline act's name — is hidden.
Top-left is covered The date badge overlays the card image. Leave that corner free of important artwork; put titles and faces toward the centre instead.

Optional square image

Prefer a square look on event cards (listings, My Events, dashboard card view)? Upload a square image next to the cover. When it is set, those blocks show that artwork in a 1:1 frame instead of the wide 200 px crop. The event detail page still prefers the cover when both are set.

  • Upload true 1:1 artwork (about 800×800).
  • If you leave it blank (or clear it), cards keep using the cover — existing events look exactly as they do today.
  • The same square image is also used for the small dashboard list avatar when present; that is a side effect, not the reason for the field.

File format & size

  • Formats — JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg/.jfif), PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, or TIFF.
  • Cover — aim for 1200×600; keep files under roughly 1–2 MB when you can.
  • Square image — about 800×800 is plenty.
  • Hard limit — uploads over 10 MB are rejected.

No image uploaded

If you skip both images, cards and list rows use the default placeholder graphic. Publishing still works — you can add artwork later from the event's Event Details tab.
